The Cultural Arts Council of Douglasville/ Douglas County (CAC) welcomes 2023 with a collection to inspire the Nations. The exhibit “Descendants Ascending” is displayed in honor of Black History Month, on display from January 9 through February 17, weekdays 9 am – 5 pm. Everyone from near and far is invited to the opening reception on Saturday, January 28, from 5-7 pm, hosted by Douglas County Connection.

On the evening of Saturday, January 28, from 5-7 pm, the gallery will be open for the memorable reception, provided generously by DC Connection. The DC Connection was founded by Helen Catron in 1990. During the past 24 years, the DC Connection has established, supported, and sponsored community events that enrich the cultural experience in the Arts, particularly as it relates to African American culture and history. Our topics will be the 2022 End of Year Report and discussion on violent crimes. All are welcome to attend an evening of crafts, games, music, and food on Friday, February 3 from 6:00 PM – 8:00 PM at the Ike Owings Community Center at Hunter Park. The Bracelet bar is a hands-on “Experience” that includes a palette of Declarations in bead form, promoting emotional wellness. There are over 30 Declarations. Participants will decide on their declarations, assemble and intentionally live out chosen declarations as a personal commitment to living a harmonious life. Through the process of creating your adornments, you will dream of your future, and later wear your mantras! The Declaration Bracelet Bar is a tangible reminder to be the best version of yourself, an EXPERIENCE for personal and professional development. The Declaration Bracelet bar is for both adults and youth, with collections for all ages available. All beads are handmade using polymer clay. All supplies included.

$100 (CAC member $90) for the 3-week course buys you 8 hours of one-on-one instruction from a prize-winning artist. A $30 material fee is due to the instructor on the first day of class for your materials.

Kick back and relax while you learn the age-old practice of working yarn for a calming experience that induces agility of mind and peace of heart. People of all ages can benefit from the self-esteem that the craft fosters for the crafter. Whether experienced or new to the medium, children and adults alike will enjoy the meditative quality of knitting, where individuals will make “utilitarian” art – the art you can use every day. Knitting develops strong minds, focus, mathematics, and who knows what else you’ll discover throughout the course.

Follow Yvette Johns through projects and exercises as she guides you not only by hand but by spirit too, a joy-filled instructor who will meet you where you’re at. You won’t forget your hours with the do-it-all craft lady! By the end of this course, you will be on your way to making gifts for yourself and others for the rest of your life. You might just say you’ll be “hooked”

A $30 material fee for newcomers is due to the instructor on the first day of class for your materials. If you have already paid the initial material fee, you do not pay the fee again. There may be preferential material fees during the course for advanced students.

Students will settle into the New Year by creating a sweater to wear while it’s still chilly weather.
